Getting started

R·iving is a location-based alarm app for transit riders. Set an alarm by dropping a pin on the map or searching for a destination, then lock your phone and relax. When you enter the alarm zone, a loud alarm will sound even if the app is closed and your phone is locked.

Frequently asked questions

Why does R·iving need "Always" location access?

Background location is required so the app can monitor your geofence alarms when your phone is locked and the app is closed. This is the only way iOS lets a third-party app wake you up at a location. Your location data never leaves your device.

The alarm didn't go off. What happened?

Check these: (1) your ringer is on and volume is up, (2) location permission is set to "Always", (3) Time Sensitive Notifications are enabled in iOS Settings → Notifications → R·iving, (4) you were inside the alarm radius. Try increasing it if you set it too small. (5) Low Power Mode was not active, as it can delay geofence events.

Does R·iving work with the phone on silent?

The alarm plays through the background audio system, which means it will play through the speaker even if your phone is on silent, as long as the volume is turned up. For the most reliable wake-up, keep your ringer on and volume at or near maximum before starting your trip.

How do I find real transit stops?

Switch to Transit Mode at the top of the map. Tap anywhere near your destination or search for it, and R·iving will find nearby bus stops, train stations, metros, and tram stops from OpenStreetMap data. Tap one to set your alarm at that exact stop.

Why doesn't my city's transit show up?

Transit stop coverage depends on OpenStreetMap data contributed by the community. Most major cities have excellent coverage, but some smaller areas may have incomplete data. You can still drop a pin on the map manually at any location.

Can I use R·iving while driving?

R·iving is designed for public transit passengers, cyclists, and walkers. Do not use it while driving. Use your eyes, the road, and a hands-free navigation app instead.

Does R·iving work offline?

Once you set an alarm, the alarm itself works entirely offline because it uses GPS only. You need a data connection to search for places and find transit stops, but the alarm will fire even if you lose signal afterward.

How do I stop the alarm?

Tap the notification to open the app, then tap DISMISS. This turns off the alarm and deactivates it so it won't fire again for the same trip. You can also tap the Dismiss button directly on the lock screen notification.

How accurate are the geofence alarms?

iOS geofences are reliable for radii of 200 metres or larger. Below 200 m, accuracy can vary depending on GPS signal strength, building density, and weather. For best results, use at least a 300 m radius in cities and 500 m+ in rural areas or on fast trains.

Why do I see ads?

R·iving is free to use, and ads help pay for development and maintenance. Ads appear as a banner at the bottom of the Home screen and as a brief full-screen ad every few alarm dismisses. An optional one-time purchase removes all ads forever.

How do I delete my data?

All of your data is stored locally on your device. To delete it, open R·iving → Settings → scroll to "Clear All Data", or simply uninstall the app. There is nothing stored on any server.

I need a feature that isn't here.
